OpenWritingKit offers a comprehensive suite of features designed to streamline and enhance the entire writing process:

Core Writing Features:

Distraction-Free Editor: A clean and focused writing environment to help you concentrate on your craft.
Story Organization: Manage multiple distinct stories, each serving as a container for related documents, characters, and outlines.
Document Management: Create and manage multiple documents within each story.
Character Development: Tools for creating and managing detailed character profiles and sheets.
Outline Builder: A drag-and-drop interface for structuring the narrative of a story.
Plot Tools: Beyond the main outliner, explore tools like plot points space and a timeline creator.
World Building: Tools for creating and managing detailed locales and in-story worlds.
Research: A dedicated space to gather and organize all your research notes.
Writing Resources Section: A curated list of external resources for writers, categorized and with a mechanism for community contributions.

AI-Powered Features (Opt-in and Configurable):

Writing Prompts Generation: Generate creative prompts to overcome writer's block or explore new ideas, based on specific files/chapters or characters.
Writing Feedback: Receive feedback and analysis on written text, including grammar and style suggestions.
Text Insights/Analysis: Tools for analysing written text, including aspects like pacing, plot holes, and character voice.

Note: AI features are disabled by default and require explicit opt-in in the Settings. Text submitted for AI processing is sent to a configured AI model (Google’s Gemini via Genkit). OpenWritingKit does not store submitted text on its servers or use it for training models beyond the immediate processing required for the feature. A full disclaimer regarding AI usage is available in the Settings page.

Utility Features:

Backup & Restore: Allows users to back up their writing data and restore it, mitigating the risk of data loss due to local storage.
Export Features: Enables users to export their work in various formats for saving copies elsewhere.
Language Context: Support for multiple languages (currently British and American English and Brazilian Portuguese).
Theming: Provides theme options (light/dark mode) for user interface customization, and editor customization features like font size, paragraph, and line spacing.
